Program Development Timeline

Timeline for the program development and approval process will follow all steps required by the statute including local authorization, public review, and approval by the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities. Follow the program’s progress with the table below.

  • April 22, 2019, residents of the town of Scituate voted to authorize the Board of Selectmen to investigate and develop a Community Choice Electricity program. The town of Scituate selected Good Energy as a consultant to assist in developing and managing the Program.

  • August 5 to August 26, 2019 – The aggregation documents were made available for public review.

On August 26, 2019, the Board of Selectmen approved the Aggregation Plan.

  • Following the public review process, the town of Scituate submitted the Aggregation Plan to the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources for consultation.

  • Following the approval by the Scituate Board of Selectmen and the Department of Energy Resources, the Town summited the Aggregation Plan to the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (DPU) for approval. The Aggregation Plan was approved by the DPU on October 5, 2022.

Subsequent to approval by the DPU, Scituate will monitor the market and identify the appropriate time to run a competitive bid for electricity supply. Upon selection of an electricity supplier, Scituate will implement an extensive education and outreach campaign to make residents and businesses aware of the upcoming program launch and their choice to participate in the Program or leave before it starts (opt out). Participants can also opt out without penalty or fee of any kind any time after the Program has begun.
